5 Greater Greener Sex Tips

  1. Surprise your partner with an environmentally-friendly intimate gift. Look for rechargeable sexual wellbeing products that are made of body-safe and eco-friendly materials, and comply with the world’s most stringent standards, including RoHS, WEEE, and REACH.
  2. Rub down with homemade eco-massage oil. Check out Stefanie Iris Weiss’ critically acclaimed enviro-sexual bible, Eco Sex, to find recipes to brew up homemade oils from natural materials.
  3. Read the labels and do your homework, says Certified Sex Educator Lou Paget. It’s your body not a manufacturer’s test site; know the source and composition of anything you are using on or in your body.
  4. Good clean oxygen is at the heart of sexual arousal and the better you breathe, the better your sex life, according to sex therapist and best-selling author Ian Kerner.
Put an air-purifier in your bedroom. Many people suffer from allergies which really impairs their libido and interest in sex. A good air purifier will remove dust and other allergens and increase air-flow.
  5. Find someone who is as passionate about the environment as they are about getting it on. Eco-friendly dating sites, like Ecodater.com and Greensingles.com,are a great way to meet your eco-warrior partner.

Use rechargeable batteries in the toys that don’t have recharging units.

Recycle your old toys through one of many groups you can find online so that the silicone can be melted down and reused.

Make sure that any batteries you do use get properly recycled.

  2. Ms. We-Vibe says:

Thanks for the tips! The battery is something that people often forget to think about because its on the inside, but you’re so right. Choosing rechargeable means having a serious impact on the number of batteries piling up in landfills!

If possible, use the packaging toys came in for storage. If they’re too bulky and you need an alternative, use lint free cloth bags instead of plastic ones. They’ll last longer, give extra protection for your toys and are less noisy to boot.

Do it in the dark. Turning the lights off during romantic play and lovemaking not only saves energy, it actually increases the intensity of the touch experience! Human beings’ primary sense is sight–it’s the main way we perceive our world. So, by putting ourselves in a dark environment and diminishing our capacity to see, we force our other senses to kick into high gear. Not being able to see your partner or your environment will make you more aware of your other primary sense: touch. And that can really improve your experience.

  5. Sandra says:

Turn up the heat by turning down the heat. If the weather is cool–or downright cold–look to your partner instead of the thermostat. Keeping your home’s heat on low saves energy and gives you more incentive to get close and cuddly with your partner. Besides, if the mood is right and things get a bit active, you won’t notice that chill anymore, anyway.

Sandra, you are by far the eco-sexiest activist!! Look at all these great tips!
Thanks so much for your interest in greening up the bedroom:) Stay tuned for the final list and we will be in touch!

Instead of buying flavoured lubes and body oils, why not use up the rest of something sweet from the kitchen? Some ice cream or gelato can make for a sinful evening in more ways than one…

  8. Sandra says:

Don’t change clothes, lose clothes. If you ever want to change clothes mid-day to do some messy or heavy housework or an at-home workout, consider this: once you get out of your nice day-clothes, just don’t put any more back on! This will cut back on how much laundry you have to do, and going around the house naked or in your undies can be a real turn-on for you or your partner.

Oh my gosh, this link ( http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/02/how-to-go-green-sex.php#tips ) has a TON of good ideas, including some I already mentioned. Showering together is a great tip! So long as you don’t over-use the water pressure.

    OK, I’m done. :) Thanks!

  10. Sandra says:

Here’s a good green-sex tip: buy a We-Vibe! A carbon-neutral product with a rechargeable battery is a great alternative to any number of less energy-effective forms of stimulation (for instance, other, power-guzzling vibrators or creative homemade stand-ins).

Buy eco-friendly intimate apparel. There are lots of greener lingerie options out there. Otherwise, forego the clothes all together and spend more time together in your birthday suits. That should keep things exciting :)

  12. Ms. We-Vibe says:

good one! and the cold temperature adds a whole other level of sensation!

  13. Ms. We-Vibe says:

Good one Matt. It’s hard to remember to keep the packaging when you’re in the heat of the moment and unpacking your toys for first use, but keeping them in reusable bags is a great way to store them safely and out of sight :)
